N orth Carolina is touted as one of the areas that have diverse landscapes across the nation. The Atlantic Ocean shore is home to some of the best beaches across the globe. The highest eastern peak in the whole of North America is Mount Mitchel located in the Appalachian Mountains. There are various activities that you can do to have some fun in North Carolina. Old Salem
Lovers of history gather here in this historic Moravian community whose establishment dates back to the 1750s. The Old Salem features historical moments where actors demonstrate some of the aspects of traditional life in the state. You will find antique bakeries, blacksmiths, and apothecaries.
Bear Island
This island is four miles long and it has a beach that faces south. It has a widespread dune system, a shrub grove as well as a marsh on the north. It is known across the state due to its traditional sites for camping, boaters, campers, day trippers, and kayakers. It has a recreational use even though a large portion of the island is wild and calm. Most of the animals that have made the island their home moved from the tidal creeks. You should not expect to find fresh water here even though the few ponds that are located on some dunes may have some fresh water remaining. The island is a scene to behold as you remember moments of the early ages.
Goose Creek State Park
This is a state park that sits strategically near Washington. It is home to a variety of wildlife that make the extensive salty water swamplands, creeks, and inlets their home. You can visit this park all through the year for recreation. Some of the activities that are rampant in the park are fishing, camping, and environmental education, picnicking, boating, and hiking among others. There are boat ramps at the Goose Creek’s shore that can perform activities such as sailing, landing, and motor boating. Every boater is required to follow the rules set by the North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission. The waters of Goose Creek State Park are open for fishing. Some of the species that you can expect to catch are bluegill, largemouth bass, and yellow perch.
Camping and hiking happens mostly at the Flatty Creek and the Goose Creek. The park has 12 tent sites that are located in a coppice of pines sheltered by Spanish moss. Some of the hiking trails that you expect to find in the park are Ivey gut trail, mallard creek trail, and flatty creek trail among others. As you enjoy picnicking and hiking, you will witness various species of flora and fauna that are domiciled here. Enjoy watching them.
Mount Mitchell State Park
This public that sits on a land area of 1996 acres was established in the year 1915 through state legislation. Through that state legislation, the park was named as the first state park in North Carolina. The park incorporates Mount Mitchell peak which is known to be the topmost part of Mississippi River. Once you park your car on the parking lot, you will access the summit through a paved street. From the summit, you can watch any place of Yancey County through the raised platform.
The park usually has an exhibit hall that is opened seasonally to help conserve the natural and cultural heritage of Mount Mitchell. There is a restaurant that operates in the park where you can find cultural food as well as tasty wines. You can also access Camp Alice from Mount Mitchell State Park. This is a historic site that was a lodging of the ancient corps. Mitchell State Park is the end of the Assault on Mount Mitchell.
